I am a bilingual Licensed Professional Counselor with over ten years of experience working with children, adolescents, adults and families on a one-on-one basis and in dyads and families. I graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2011. I am currently completing the final year of training toward my Doctorate in Psychology degree from the College of St. Elizabeth.
My experience at the Regional Diagnostic Treatment Center included working with children who have experienced trauma from either physical or sexual abuse. I also provided in home therapeutic services to children and adolescents who were struggling with anxiety, depression, behavioral problems, grief, separation, and also helped to provide parents with interventions that they can use at home. I am currently working at Overlook Hospital in the Family Practice Department providing individual therapy to clients experiencing trauma, mood symptoms, post-traumatic stress and grief as completion of the final requirements toward earning my PsyD, expected in August 2019. In this role, I consult with the client’s primary care physician and refer to psychiatrists and other team members to coordinate care, including providing referrals to ancillary care and higher levels of care.
I am fluent in English and Spanish and enjoy helping people from all cultural backgrounds. My approach is to create a warm and friendly environment to help clients feel comfortable as they develop a therapeutic relationship. Clinically, I implement psychodynamic, person-centered, and cognitive-behavioral approaches and incorporate mindfulness strategies, when appropriate. I am certified in Combined Parent Child Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CPC-CBT), an evidenced based practice designed to address the needs of children and families at-risk for physical abuse, that has wide-spread applications in reducing parent-child/teen conflict and improving family communication.
I am a professional member of the American Counseling Association.
