Support for Women Navigating Life Transitions, Career Stress & Anxiety

by Caroline Camarena, LSW

Every year, March arrives with a noticeable shift in energy. There’s a sense of movement, of things beginning to open up again. I’ve come to think of it as a natural point for reflection, especially when it comes to the decisions women make about their time, their roles, and their relationship with work in all its forms.

March holds a unique overlap of meaning. It’s Women’s History Month, a time to recognize the many ways women have shaped paths forward, often while navigating uncertainty and competing demands. It’s also the season of March Madness, a reminder of unpredictability, resilience, and rising to the moment when outcomes aren’t guaranteed. Alongside all of that, the start of spring signals a quieter but equally powerful shift, one rooted in renewal, growth, and forward movement.

Together, these themes reflect something deeply familiar: life doesn’t always follow a clear or linear path, especially when it comes to decisions about work and how we spend our time.

Redefining Work Across the Lifespan

“Work” doesn’t look the same for everyone. For some, it’s a career or a paycheck. For others, it’s caregiving, managing a household, supporting a family, or holding multiple roles at once, both paid and unpaid. For many women, that balance shifts over time as priorities, circumstances, and identities evolve.

Across the lifespan, these decisions resurface in different ways. What once felt aligned can start to feel limiting. Responsibilities expand or ease. New opportunities or challenges emerge. Sometimes change is intentional; other times it’s unexpected. Either way, it requires thoughtful decision-making and, often, a willingness to step into the unknown.

Navigating Career Changes, Life Transitions & Personal Growth

Milestones aren’t one-size-fits-all. They extend far beyond traditional markers like degrees or job titles and often take shape in deeply personal ways.

A milestone might be stepping away from a paid role to care for others, or choosing to return to work after time at home. It might be continuing to work while also managing caregiving responsibilities, or deciding to pursue something new after years in a familiar space. It might look like building something independently or simply recognizing that your needs have changed and allowing that to guide your next step.

These moments carry weight. Even when they are the right decisions, they can bring uncertainty and internal tension between what feels comfortable and what feels necessary for growth.

Managing Uncertainty & Decision-Making Anxiety

It’s easy to feel pressure to have everything figured out before making a move. But most meaningful decisions don’t come with full clarity upfront. Clarity often develops through action, reflection, and adjustment over time.

What can help is slowing the process down. Acknowledging the significance of the decision instead of rushing past it. Focusing on what is immediately within reach rather than trying to solve everything at once. Grounding yourself when emotions rise and recognizing the difference between what you can control and what you can’t.

Support also plays an important role. Many women are used to carrying responsibilities on their own, particularly when their roles involve caring for others. But having space to talk things through, whether with someone you trust or with a professional, can create clarity and reduce overwhelm.

Moving Forward with Clarity & Confidence

There is value in letting go of the idea that every decision must be permanent or perfect. Life rarely unfolds in straight lines. Most paths are shaped through a series of choices, experiences, and evolving priorities. March reflects that reality. It’s a season of transition that doesn’t demand immediate answers, but instead invites movement, a step out of stillness and into something that is still taking shape.

If you find yourself in that in-between space, navigating decisions about career, caregiving, or how you want to spend your time and energy, know that this process deserves intention and support.
