What is TF-CBT?
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is a structured, evidence-based psychotherapy designed to help individuals process and recover from traumatic experiences. Originally developed for children and adolescents, TF-CBT integrates principles of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-sensitive interventions, and family involvement to reduce trauma-related symptoms and improve emotional functioning.
TF-CBT is widely recognized as a gold standard treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and trauma-related symptoms, with strong empirical support across diverse populations. While it is most extensively studied in children and teens ages 3–18, adaptations of trauma-focused CBT approaches have also demonstrated effectiveness in adults.
